Hays Education are working in partnership with a large, vibrant specialist support primary school in South Manchester. This inclusive and nurturing school caters for pupils aged 2-11 with a wide range of complex needs, including Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). Your New Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with complex needs across the school. You will work closely with class teachers and therapists to deliver tailored learning and care plans, ensuring pupils are engaged, supported, and safe throughout the school day.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils with PMLD, SLD, ASD, and associated medical or physical needs.
  • Assisting with personal care, hoisting, and manual handling (training provided if needed).
  • Using specialist communication tools such as PECS, Makaton, or AAC devices.
  • Creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Supporting sensory-based and therapeutic activities.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Experience working with children or young people with complex needs or disabilities.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
  • Confidence in supporting personal care and mobility needs (training can be provided).
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to different communication and behavioural strategies.
  • A DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one through Hays
  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant certificate, Moving & Handling training, or Team Teach are desirable but not essential.
